歌川芳虎 Utagawa Yoshitora (act. ca. 1836-1887)
He was born in Edo (modern Tokyo), he was the oldest pupil of Utagawa Kuniyoshi who excelled in prints of warriors, kabuki actors, beautiful women, and foreigners (Yokohama-e). By the beginning of the Meiji era (1868-1912), he was one of the most popular painters in Japan.
