今尾景祥 Imao Keisho (1902-1993) Japanese art kakejiku kakemono wall hanging scroll / Rising Sun and Pine Tree with Original Double Box (Tomobako) RE133

今尾景祥 Imao Keisho (1902-1993)
He became the adopted son of Keinen Imao, a well-known Japanese-style painter, and inherited his painting method. He did not belong to the art world much, but mainly held solo exhibitions. Although he did not receive any significant awards, he was highly acclaimed and was presented to the Imperial Household several times.

with signature 'Keisho' 景祥 and seal 'Takanori ima in' 孝則 今印 'Keisho' 景祥

A dignified hanging scroll by Imao Keishō, adopted son and artistic heir of Imao Keinen, a master of the Maruyama–Shijō school. The painting features a majestic pine tree silhouetted against a vivid rising sun, rendered in elegant brushwork and soft atmospheric tones. This composition evokes themes of renewal, longevity, and imperial grace—motifs often associated with auspicious occasions and seasonal transitions. Signed Keishō (景祥) and sealed Takanori ima in (孝則 今印) and Keishō (景祥), the work reflects Keishō’s inherited style and personal refinement. Though he remained outside formal art institutions, Keishō held solo exhibitions and was honored with presentations to the Imperial Household. Preserved in its original double-layered wooden box (niju tomobako), this scroll offers both aesthetic serenity and historical resonance, ideal for collectors of 20th-century Nihonga and lineage-based Kyoto painting.
