新谷鐵僊 Shintani Tessen (1867-1954)
Born in Kiyase, Kitakyushu, his real name is 慶蔵 Keizo. He worked for a relative's blacksmith shop and later became independent. While working for a living, he studied under 木村耕巌 Kimura Kogan (1830-1911), a Nanga painter in Wakamatsu.
He painted landscapes, flowers, and birds, tigers, etc., and also excelled at painting Bodhidharma Daruma.
