長谷川等伯 Hasegawa Tohaku (1539-1610)
Born in Nanao, Noto Province, he painted Buddhist images and portraits related to Nichiren Buddhism in Nanao from his twenties. Around Genki 2, he studied the painting styles of various schools such as the Kano school, and was influenced by the ink paintings of Mokkei and Sesshu. He established his own style of painting in both gold and blue screen paintings and ink paintings.
