This authentic Nichiren Mandala Gohonzon is a sacred calligraphic scroll written by Nichiun, a high-ranking priest of the Nichiren school of Buddhism. Dated October 1917 (Taishō 6), it represents the central object of devotion (Gohonzon) in Nichiren Buddhist practice. The mandala features the powerful inscription “Namu Myōhō Renge Kyō” (Devotion to the Mystic Law of the Lotus Sutra), surrounded by the names of Shakyamuni Buddha, Prabhutaratna Buddha, the Four Heavenly Kings, and other protective deities and historical figures from the Lotus Sutra tradition. This arrangement symbolizes the universal truth and spiritual protection offered to practitioners. Nichiun was authorized to transcribe mandalas within the Nichiren lineage, and this scroll reflects both religious authenticity and historical significance.
